I woke up the morning of my first holiday photo session of the season to look out upon a gray and rainy day, but my clients reported that it was still clear in Alexandria, where we were planning to meet to take the family’s photos, so we decided to proceed as planned and rendezvous at our agreed-upon location. Unbeknownst to me, this “local” park actually falls under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service. I arrived to find the entrance barricaded due to the government shutdown! And this was my backup location after realizing my first choice was also closed due the shutdown. Not to be deterred, we decided to just drive until we stumbled upon a random nice spot in Old Town, Alexandria. Luckily, Old Town has an abundance of random nice spots, so within a few minutes we found a lovely, waterfront park. The rain mostly held out for the whole session.

After photographing this family several times over the past few years, it’s like reuniting with old friends every time I see them. Thanks Dan and Kim for being such troopers! The government shutdown couldn’t stop us! A little drizzle couldn’t stop us!
