Multigenerational photos can be a wonderful way to embrace the overflowing love in a family. The Fargis family session was a joy to capture on film because of all the unique characters who participated and their differing personalities and style.
We got together at the family home for our first session. Eileen Fargis had seen photographs I’d taken for a colleague of hers, Martin Aares, and his family. Eileen’s daughter MaryGrace was born in August of last year and she was interested in doing birth announcements and holiday cards for their family, so she got in touch with me to set things up. She’d previously done a photo session for her oldest, Andrew, when he was a bit younger, and wanted to do the same with her new daughter. In fact, she confided that she’d like to start a new memory tradition of taking photos of the children 1-2x per year so they could look back at the kids as they grow and change.
MaryGrace was a very easy-going baby and she was an absolute pleasure to photograph. With her big blue eyes and beautiful dark hair, she has a very whimsical presence. Andrew on the other hand, like most kids his age, wasn’t all that interested in posing. Instead, he was on the go throughout our time together. My favorites of Andrew happened when he started playing with his toys in the backyard. I sat back, allowing the moment and scene to unfold, rather than pulling his attention from what he was doing. (This is a tip I give to parents when they join my Snap Happy Class, too!) Because of this, we got some fantastically authentic smiles from this adorable little man.
While the children were, of course, the focal point, it was fun to see other family members get involved. Eileen’s mother and step-father also participated and we got lovely shots of the grandparents with Andrew and MaryGrace. We also included lovely photos of their beloved nanny in photos with each child, though they’re not in this set.
Eileen decided to have a framed print of each child for the dining room, plus several other favorites for spots throughout the house. I’m looking forward to the follow-up session booked for 2016 to catch up with the children and capture all the changes over the past several months.
