This was the first time I had the pleasure of photographing the Islinger family, and it’s all thanks to my wonderful client Teresa Bernstein who invited the Islingers along with a 3rd family, Elizabeth Betta and her son Leo, (whose photos I’ll be publishing soon as well) to join her for my new Mini-Session Mixer offering. As with the Bernsteins, the Islinger photo shoot on took place on the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral.
Nicole wanted a great family photo, plus nice ones of the kids on their own. Before we got together, she thought getting photos of the whole family would be a complicated affair. Sometimes it can be a challenge when you have three little ones four years old and under. Luckily, the process went smoothly and she said she’d definitely want to do it again.
In all honesty, the Islingers made things very easy for me. Mom and dad helped keep the kids relaxed and engaged throughout our time together. On top of being super easy to photograph, I loved the casual, yet polished look of the clothing, along with color combinations they chose. Their outfits were a great example of a very simple approach to coordinating outfits without overthinking it. It totally worked!
For their full family photo, I was excited to try out the location in front of the stone wall at the Cathedral, and it turned out so well. The cascading ivy, combined with the fantastic outfits and their outgoing personalities make the composition really jive. I know it will be a favorite for them to have hanging on their wall.
I also love the couple photo of Nicole and Eric together. There’s something so sweet in the way they embraced for that special little kiss.
The Islinger’s are moving soon, and Nicole mentioned they’d be interested in custom artwork to adorn their walls once they’re settled. I’m really looking forward to revisiting these images with them when the time comes. I was so pleased that the overall process was as great for them as it was fun for me. 😀
