In early August, I had the privilege of taking part in the Breastfeeding Center’s Nourish, Flourish, Connect Fundraiser. It was a celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, as well as a way to raise money for the Breastfeeding Center’s a Better Nest Fund.

The “B” family took part in this event by participating in a Limited Edition Mother & Child Photo Session with me. Juliana (Mom) found out about this special offering through the Breastfeeding Center when they announced the collaboration. She knew it was the perfect way to capture her sweet mother-son relationship, as well as giving back to the community. I’m so happy to have met her and had the opportunity to photograph her and her adorable son, Julian.

During the session, I learned the family is planning to move soon. Because of this, they had been looking for a way to commemorate their time in DC. While I’m thrilled to have taken these adorable photos of Mom and her infant son, I’m sorry they’re leaving the area. Julian certainly is a cutie pie and I wish I could continue to photograph him again as he gets older.

For our time together, we met at Bishop’s Garden at National Cathedral bright and early in the morning. While it might have been early by most adult’s standards, right away in the morning often works well for babies. At Julian’s age, many babies still take their morning nap. As it turns out, the time also worked well due to the summer’s heat. The day went on, it ended up very hot and humid. Luckily, when we met, the heat was still bearable. This made for a happy baby—as well as happy Mom and photographer. 😉

We finished up our session just as the sun was getting too high in the sky and we were starting to feel it’s heat. Julian was just starting to tire out as his nap time approached. Juliana knew well how to make Julian smile, and we were able to capture a bunch of great photos. Some of them were Julian on his own, as well as plenty of gorgeous mama and adorable son interactions. Some of my favorites turned out to be the images of Julian with a thoughtful or mischievous gaze. You can tell he’s going to be a curious, adventurous little man.

When we went through the images together, I was pleased to find out Juliana loved the same images I did. Without a doubt, the collection of mother and son photos we took will be looked upon with fondness for years to come. I hope the family feels that we’ve captured not only the special bond of mother and son, but took a little piece of DC to carry on with them wherever they go.
