Miss Amy

For many months, my son and I have been taking music classes with Amy Despres, founder of Miss Amy’s Music Makers, which teaches the nationally recognized childhood music program called Music Together®.  Amy is a fantastic teacher with great musical talent and infectious enthusiasm. She has a way of engaging very young children that has fostered my son’s love and appreciation for music.

I recently spent some time with Amy in my professional capacity as a photographer documenting two Saturday morning classes so she would have new images to spice up her website. Here are some of my favorites:

I’m excited to announce that I am participating in Care for Kids Card Program to benefit Children’s National Medical Center.

As some of you may know, when my little guy was born, we had a medical scare that brought us to Children’s National Medical Center for treatment over the course of his first six months of life. I had nothing but amazing care during every visit. I’m thrilled to be able to give back to help fund more important programs at the hospital that could help more kids.

How the program works:

  • Purchase a Care for Kids Card for $50
  • Participating merchants offer a 20% discount to card holders
  • Use your card as often as you like during the 10-day shopping period (Friday, October 23rd, through Sunday, November 1st, 2009)
  • 100% of the card sale proceeds go to Children’s National Medical Center

How I’m participating:

  • You may purchase a Care for Kids Card from me directly (or from many other locations)
  • All photo sessions purchased during the 10-day shopping period (Friday, October 23rd, through Sunday, November 1st, 2009) will be discounted 20%
  • All current clients who have previously placed orders may use the Care for Kids Card to receive 20% off  re-orders of any prints or products (this includes holiday cards and gift albums!) during the 10-day shopping period. The administrative fee for unarchiving image files will be waived.

How you can help:

  • Purchase a Care for Kids Card
  • Shop at participating merchants
  • Help spread the word by forwarding this information to all your friends

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to book your session or make holiday gift purchases and help a great cause!

There are an enormous number of stores, restaurants, and vendors in DC, Maryland, and Virginia participating in this fundraiser. To check out all the places you can shop and dine using the Care for Kids Card and for more information about about the program, go to www.careforkidscard.com or call 202.476.4275

Here’s one of my favorite photos from Sasha’s first month.

Holiday mini-sessions

For those of you who are interested in having just the right photograph for your holiday cards this year, I am offering special mini-sessions packages.

What are mini-sessions you ask? Unlike my usual sessions that last about 2 hours, the mini-session will be half an hour with the aim of creating the perfect images to share with family and friends for cards and holiday gifts.

The mini-sessions will be held on Saturday, October 10 and Saturday, October 24. I’ll choose the location (still TBD – considering the Arboretum, plus an indoor location in case of bad weather – but I promise it will be lovely!) and half hour back-to-back time slots will be available  for which you may sign-up from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. If these times don’t work well for your baby’s nap time, I may be able to make adjustments to the times based on availability. Please contact me as soon as possible to reserve your time.

If you’ve already got your favorite picture selected and you’d just like to order cards, please see this post for details.

Like last year, you also have the option of ordering your cards from TinyPrints.com at a discount through my blog. This year TinyPrints.com is making available an exclusive set of 24 designs available only to professional photographers. These cards will not be publicly available on their website. I’ll be posting a link to these options on my blog in a few weeks, so be on the lookout for more details.

The mini-session packages are $250 and will include the following:

  • 30-minute session
  • 7-10 images uploaded to private online gallery
  • $150 credit towards holiday cards, prints, or other products (see this post for exclusive card designs that I offer)
  • 1 picture for use with Tiny Prints ($50 value)
  • payment due in full at time of booking

For the first four months after my son was born, I frequented the Breast Feeding Center almost weekly for their new moms support group. It was an amazing resource for me during a time when I faced a lot of challenges with breast feeding, plus it was a great way for me to get out of the house and meet other moms. The BFC’s old website left a lot to be desired so a fellow mom, BFC patron, and graphic designer extraordinaire Linsey Silver, principal of Element 47 Design, volunteered her services to do a total website redesign. Linsey enlisted me to provide the photography. With the help of many mother and baby models from the support group, we got some great images to grace the pages of the new site. Take a look and let me know what you think!

Open House: Spa on the Hill

Come check out the new digs at Spa on the Hill! Formerly known as Mommy Massage Studio, they’re hosting an open house to celebrate they’re relaunch on Sunday, November 2nd, between 1-4pm, at 1013 E Street SE, Washington, DC  20003

When I was pregnant and in serious need of some back pain relief and relaxation, I sought out a massage therapist with experience working with pregnant women. With a quick search on the DC Urban Moms website, I found Sonia Shultis, a licensed massage therapist of Mommy Massage Studio fame. I had a couple of amazing prenatal massage sessions with Sonia and a couple postnatal sessions, courtesy of the hubby.

Sonia is relaunching her massage studio as a full service spa , which will focus on pregnant and parenting families. They will offer a variety of spa and wellness services as well as classes, support groups and references for prenatal and family service specialists.

If you come by during the open house and book an appointment you’ll get a 25% discount of your next treatment. Good deal! Plus, I’ll be there! Sonia has graciously agreed to do cross promotions with me since both of our businesses focus on providing services to moms and families. Keep an eye out for future deals for our joint clients!

In time for the holidays

I still have some appointments available in November. If you schedule an appointment before Thanksgiving, you’ll have your prints in time for the holidays. Please contact me asap if you’d like to book!
