My guy!

Just wanted to post a recent favorite taken just before all the hair was chopped off. We kept waiting for the baby curls to emerge as his hair grew long again, but alas it looks like the curly days are gone and the bangs were just getting in the way. :-(

There is no question that the blossoming cherry trees around the Tidal Basin are beautiful to behold, but each year during the peak season when the Cherry Blossom Festival takes place, I’m overcome with lethargy by the idea of battling crowds and traffic to see them in person. Yet, whenever I actually do get to photograph during the very short peak period, I am so grateful that I’ve had a reason to compel me to be there.

With DC’s wacky weather this year, the cherry blossoms peaked very early in conjunction with almost a full week of cold rain until one lone sunny Friday followed by predictions of a rainy weekend. Luckily, that was the day that my session was scheduled with Christina, Bryan, and kids Emma and William. Last time I saw William he was only 6 months old. Now he’s an active three year old with sweet 8 month old sister Emma. We did manage to find our own tranquil spots, surrounded by the magnificent sea of pink blossoms where it was easy to forget the hundreds of other people milling about just out of view.

I still have some sessions from 2012 that I didn’t get a chance to post yet. Even though all of these clients have seen their images, it’s always nice for anyone who’s curious to be able to look through the blog and see all the kids I photographed represented. So, without any further ado, here are Arabella and Walt and their lovely parents!

I last saw Vivienne for when she turned one. She continues to be an absolute joy to photograph. This was another great session at the Franciscan Monastery. I’m so excited that I’ll have some more opportunities in the coming months to see her with the impending arrival of a new baby brother or sister!

Black Tie Tyler

What better way to make good use of a tuxedo purchased for a wedding that would otherwise never be needed again: holiday photos! Another fun session at the Franciscan Monastery with Tyler, one of my favorite subjects.

The holidays are coming!

Falling behind in my blog posts again…

Here’s the first from a few sessions that I did at the Franciscan Monastery for the holidays with the K Family. Check out how much little brother Adam has grown since last year.

Like most schools in the area, my son’s preschool holds an annual fundraising auction. What better way for me to help in the effort (and help my son in the process) than to donate a gift certificate for a photo session and lovely gallery wrap. In an amazing coincidence, the family who won the certificate (who are from Maryland and are parents to the lovely school-aged girl below) happen to be good friends with another of my fave clients (who live in Virginia and are parents to a one-year old) and bid on my session without realizing that I was the same photographer who had photographed their friends. It must have been fate!

Last Saturday evening at the appointed time, we had just enough of a break in the hot, steamy weather (if you can count a drop in humidity and a few degrees to the low-90s as a “break”) to proceed. I know Hannah was looking forward to her photo shoot. With tree climbing and bubble blowing, she was a trooper in spite of the heat and the late hour.

My most recent newborn session was with baby Chloe and family. She barely opened her eyes the whole time I was with her, even with exuberant big brother Carson and big sister Camryn right by her side. I was extremely impressed with how calm and collected mom Carese was from the moment I arrived, juggling having all three kids at home for the group photos at the beginning and then getting the older two off to school and a play date without seeming the slightest bit frazzled. It was great meeting you all!

Family of Five

I had the pleasure of photographing the lovely H Family last Friday and also of being introduced to a fabulous new location for outdoor sessions. The Franciscan Monastery is probably familiar to anyone who lives in the Brookland neighborhood of Washington, DC, but unknown to those of us who live elsewhere in the city (at least to me). It was a truly beautiful area with lot of different areas including gardens, pavilions, and walkways, that provided a picturesque backdrop for all the images. In a city as small as D.C., it’s nice to still be able to discover some new nooks and crannies.

I haven’t had many opportunities to work with three kids at the same time, and it definitely kept me on my toes. But big sis Faith did an awesome job helping keep her younger siblings Charlie and Rosemary focused and happy. I could use an assistant like her for every photo session!

Gabriel and Sofia

The last time I saw Gabriel, he was probably no more than 4 months old. His mom Sara and I met at the Breast Feeding Center when our sons were infants. Now, more than two years later, it was nice to get reacquainted and also, to meet little sister Sofia. Like many second children that I’ve photographed, she was super mellow and even tolerated some chilly weather so we could get some nice outside images.
