Goodbye Rain?

This session was originally supposed to be two weeks ago. You probably don’t remember how bad the weather was that weekend, so let me refresh your memory: it was as if we were in the middle of monsoon season with major flooding all over the region. Definitely not weather suited for photographing a toddler outside. So the session was postponed till last weekend, which by contrast, ended up having summer-like weather. Even so, the Georgetown brick sidewalks were still a bit chilly on bare feet, as if to remind us that spring hadn’t officially arrived yet. Sorry little guy! After a string of 60 and 70 degree days, we are being reminded yet again that it is only March with snow forecast for tonight. Crazy. Anyway, it was a pleasure photographing this cutie on such a beautiful day.

The Spanish Steps, Part I: Liam

The Spanish Steps, tucked away in an unsuspecting location in downtown DC, provided a gorgeous backdrop for some more holiday photos. Liam was dressed in the perfect outfit to compliment the autumn colors of the fallen leaves. I’m in love with the results! I almost forgot to mention, check out the photos I took of Liam just about one year ago. I’m especially impressed with the change in his hair!

Zoë

Thanks to nice spring weather and a lovely outdoor setting just beyond their front door, I was able to do outside photographs of Zoë and her parents, and then retreat inside for some more variety when the heat of the day kicked in. I particularly love the look and texture of a brick walkway as a backdrop for photographs. Zoë, who is a super confident walker, also took great pleasure in the walkway, running up and down its length, barely pausing long enough for me to focus the lens.  I must admit that her speed posed quite a challenge for me and I had to enlist the help of hand-holding parents to slow her down a bit.

I’m trying to do a better job with posting images from each session in a more timely manner. It’s only been a couple weeks since I made that pledge to myself and the readers of this blog, and so far, so good. If all goes as planned I should have another post in a couple of days, so please stay tuned!

Twins: Twice as nice

I’ve broken a golden rule of blogging by letting so much time pass since I lasted posted. If you’re reading this now then you haven’t lost interest yet and I thank you for that. It’s not that I don’t have any great new pictures to post. Just the opposite. It’s been a busy spring season and I’m finally catching my breath!

I had a great day out with Ben and Sam and their parents Bill and Melissa. We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather for our outing to the National Arboretum. We started out at the famous National Capitol Columns, which were originally part of the East Portico of the Capitol building, but were removed during a renovation. Thankfully, they were not lost to the rubble pile and have a majestic home on a hilltop at the Arboretum. I love this spot because it reminds me of Roman ruins that I encountered in unlikely places when I lived in Spain.

As for the photo session, Ben and Sam were my first set of twins. Thankfully, Melissa dressed Ben in blue as a mnemonic device for those of us who can’t tell the boys apart. All day like I was repeating to myself, “Ben in blue, Ben in blue, Ben in blue.” It was a fun challenge trying to get two active toddlers to smile and look in the same direction at the same time and sometimes better just to let them each do their own thing. Just wait till their both running around!

Birthday girl

It’s been a few weeks since I last posted, but I’m finally catching up a bit. It’s been a busy time thanks to all the new bookings now that spring has arrived.

I had the pleasure of photographing Aspen right after her first birthday, just days after she took her first steps. She was decked out in a party dress and even had a yummy birthday cake as a prop just for our session. How often does a kid get the opportunity to dig into a cake with both hands? It’s too bad she won’t remember the fun, but at least she’ll have photos to preserve the moment. She is one happy baby oozing with personality.

I met Aspen’s mom Amber through The Enterprising Moms, “a community of entrepreneurial, business-owner, and self-employed moms in the DC Metro area.” Amber runs a web-based boutique, In Vogue Baby, offering really cool and unique baby items and is getting ready to expand to a new store in Old Town Alexandria soon. Looking forward to checking out the new digs soon!
