Eight days old. Her name represents New Orleans where her parents met and Haiti where her father served in the Peace Corps. With a little jazz playing in the background to soothe her, she slept through almost the entire photo session, breaking into sweet little sleep smiles throughout. I’m looking forward to seeing her blossom from baby to little girl over the next year.

Mea and Parrish were my fourth set of twins in just over a year, but my first set of newborn twins. I’ve always been impressed by the calm and collected nature of all the moms of multiples I’ve encountered thus far, but I now have even greater appreciation for the challenge of coordinating the care of two babies at this earliest stage of life. Hanging out with their mom Meg brought back memories of how frazzled I felt for weeks after the birth of my son, yet she seemed to have it all well in hand, with an air of tranquility that belied the situation.
When Meg called me to arrange the session, she shared with me that the photos would be a surprise for her husband’s 50th birthday. I didn’t know until I arrived at their home that he would actually be working downstairs throughout my entire visit, but had been given strict instructions to steer clear of the flurry of activity upstairs. I managed to come and go without him ever knowing I was there! I’m very excited to have been enlisted in the scheme and can’t wait to unveil the gift when the finished artwork is ready.
In honor of their arrival, Mothers Day, and dad’s 50th birthday, here are Parrish and Mea!

I think the peak of autumn foliage occurred the day of this photo session. As I walked up the front stoop of Rachel and Andy’s row house, I couldn’t help but notice the brightly colored fallen leaves blanketing the walkway. Feeling inspired, we brought a little hint of nature indoors to add a little pop to the images. Thanks to extremely chill parents for letting me get creative. I feel extremely privileged to have been able to spend quality time with my dear friends and their sweet new boy during these first precious days.

I had the pleasure of photographing this cutie pie and his lovely parents last weekend. Enjoy!

A few weeks ago, while pushing my son in a swing at the playground, I met another mom as she pushed her son alongside. We ended up chatting about both babies’ cute baby hairdos, my son with his long curls in back and not yet fully grown-in whispy top, her son with a soft blond spikes, too lightweight to lay flat just yet. She mentioned she was contemplating a haircut for him and I implored her not to. So what if a baby’s hair is a bit unruly? At that age, it’s adorable! The very next day, I arrived for a pre-session consult with a new client whom I had never met before and, lo and behold, it was the same mom from the playground!!! I can’t tell you how excited I was to learn that I would be photographing the baby with the cute hair! I love coincidences like that!
So how about that hair? Cute, right?

There’s something classic, yet contemporary about these photos of Cecelia. I always ask my clients if they have any handmade blankets or clothing that we can use during the photo session. These hand-knitted items are a perfect example; they add a little something special but don’t distract from the beauty of the baby. So yummy!

Fallon’s mom wanted to make sure we captured a gummy smile before Fallon’s first teeth came in. Fallon made the job easy, obliging us with endless big grins. I’m looking forward to 3 more shoots with Fallon over the course of the next year to see how she blossoms. Happy Valentine’s Day!

From the moment I walked in the door and got a warm welcome from the family dog Jackson, I knew that he’d make a great model especially juxtaposed with tiny Stella. Stella felt like a feather in my arms compared to my now 9 month old son. It wasn’t so long ago, but it’s already hard to believe he was ever that little. Having grown up without pets, I was amazed by Stella’s insouciance when Jackson gave her a “bath.” When the initial excitement of my arrival wore off, he chilled out on the couch and remained completely unfazed as I took these shots. It was so sweet to see them together.

I don’t think Rachel was expecting to be in any of the photos, but I’m glad she joined in because this is just one of the many lovely mother-daughter shots that made the final cut.

For the first four months after my son was born, I frequented the Breast Feeding Center almost weekly for their new moms support group. It was an amazing resource for me during a time when I faced a lot of challenges with breast feeding, plus it was a great way for me to get out of the house and meet other moms. The BFC’s old website left a lot to be desired so a fellow mom, BFC patron, and graphic designer extraordinaire Linsey Silver, principal of Element 47 Design, volunteered her services to do a total website redesign. Linsey enlisted me to provide the photography. With the help of many mother and baby models from the support group, we got some great images to grace the pages of the new site. Take a look and let me know what you think!
