In between portrait sessions, you’ll probably want to host a photo shoot of your own and put all our snap happy lessons to the test! Today I’d like to share with you some of my favorite photo-friendly locations in Washington DC to help set your child and family portraits up for success.
As a professional child photographer Washington DC, I serve families throughout the city and surrounding greater metropolitan area, as well as the beltway and beyond! Most of the locations I know best are right within the city limits. Here are some of my favorite photo-friendly locations in Washington DC for staging a photo shoot with your family.
This garden is adorned with beautiful flowers most of year and has gorgeous expanses of grass for the kids to run around on, a gazebo, as well as plenty of shady spots to enjoy.
#2 – Meridian Hill Park
If you’re interested in keeping the kids entertained for several hours, Meridian Hill Park makes for a wonderful backdrop and place to spend a leisurely afternoon. The park design was inspired by an Italian aristocrat’s private residence and it seems that around every corner there is something to explore: over a dozen giant stone fountains, pools, historic architecture, and more.
Washington DC’s historic Mount Pleasant Library is the third oldest public library still in use in the city and is stunning to behold. The building faces north, meaning that the majestic stone facade and stairway are always bathed in soft, indirect sunlight – a photographer’s dream. Not to mention that when you’ve finished snapping pictures, you can step inside and visit what I believe is one of the best children’s book collections in all of the city!
#4 – Your local playground!
Neighborhood playgrounds are familiar turf and they generally make your kids feel comfortable as they engage with their surroundings. As soon as you see your children settling into their natural rhythm of play, take a step back and start snapping away. Personally, one of my favorite spots is Westminster Playground, an urban greenspace settled into a gorgeous neighborhood.
