Julie’s work is vibrant and striking

We love and appreciate the photos more and more as time passes.

Julie’s work is vibrant and striking — and not just with regard to color. She was able to accurately capture our son’s personality, and she has a great sense of composition. On top of that, she’s really easy to work with and is a mom herself, so she knows how to interact with little ones. We highly recommend working with her. It’s been almost a year since the photo shoot, and we love and appreciate the photos more and more as time passes.

GENERAL INFORMATION

WHAT IS THE SIGNATURE PHOTO SESSION EXPERIENCE
All photo session include both a planning consultation and a viewing session, all in the comfort of your home.

The planning meeting gives us a chance to meet each other beforehand and plan the direction of the photo session. I’ll answer any questions you have and make suggestions for clothing and accessories. It also gives me the opportunity to determine which locations in your home will serve well as a backdrop for the photos and where photos might be displayed later.

On the day of your photo session, I don’t schedule any sessions back-to-back, so there’s never any rush to finish up by a certain time. Most sessions last about two hours, giving us plenty of time to take breaks when needed.

After your session, I’ll work with you to create warm and meaningful artwork customized for specific spaces within your home with suggestions for arranging images in groupings on the wall and to give you an idea of sizes that would work nicely together, as well as other display options designed to show off your images.

WHAT WILL IT COST?
The session creation fee is $280 for a weekday session and $380 for a weekend, holiday, or newborn session. This includes an in-person planning consultation, the photo session itself (which is about 2 hours for families with babies or kids or about 3 hours for families with newborns), and a viewing and ordering session (also held in your home), along with all of the editing and retouching of your images.

My goal is to give each and every client an wonderful experience and more importantly, amazing images to mark this special time. I work closely with each family to create something beautiful for their home, usually helping them design custom artwork to showcase their images, with a full range of prints and other products that can be purchased separately.

Most clients opt for some sort of combination of wall portraits and/or a gift album spending between $1100 and $4000. However, no minimum purchase is required. Collections start at $1775 and include a combination of a keepsake item (such as an album), prints, and digital files. The purchase of a collection is not required and all items are available a la carte, though collections offer a better value.

Most importantly, I want your photo session to result in you getting what you want out of it: what will work best for your family, what will look the most fantastic in your home, what will make you happy! I will guide you through the decision making process with no pressure, just providing expert recommendations and following your lead.

Please contact me for full pricing.

WHEN WILL WE GET TO SEE THE PICTURES FROM OUR SESSION

About two weeks after your photo session, we’ll schedule an in-person viewing session in the comfort of your home. During our time together, we’ll go through the images, select your favorites, review the options for wall portraits, albums, gift prints, etc. and determine sizes to order. I’ll walk you through the whole process systematically and efficiently. And you’ll have me there to collaborate and provide expert recommendations on ways to beautifully showcase your images. At the conclusion of our meeting, you’ll have all the information you need to make final decisions and to place your order.

FAMILY SESSIONS

HOW DO I BOOK A FAMILY SESSION?

Just drop me an email or schedule a call and I’ll answer any questions you may have.  We’ll talk about your vision and my style to determine if we are a good fit to work together. After we speak, you’ll be able to select a session date from my booking calendar that works for you, then complete my online portrait agreement and submit the session fee payment. Your session date will be reserved once the portrait agreement and payment are received.

I work with a limited number of clients each month so that I can give each and every family personalized service and attention. Session dates are often reserved many weeks or even months in advance. Reservations are on a first-come basis. Please keep in mind in order to accommodate as many clients as possible, proposed session dates can only be held for 48 hours and will only be reserved once payment is received. After 48 hours, the spot will be made available again for others to book.

WHERE WILL MY FAMILY SESSION TAKE PLACE?

Most often, I photograph families in and around their homes. This is my favorite option for many reasons: Kids usually feel most at ease on their own turf. We get to document your family with the home as a backdrop, adding another layer of meaning to photos capturing this time in your lives. No need to pack the diaper bag or remember snacks and pacifiers.

We can also choose a nice outdoor spot, weather permitting. We will discuss possibilities for the session during our initial phone call or at our planning consultation. Ideal locations are those with good natural light and where you feel comfortable and relaxed. We do not need to go to a landmark or a manicured garden (though I am happy to do so). A little bit of foliage, a brick wall, a wrought iron fence are all we need.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

Simple and comfortable clothing works well with my photographic style. Avoiding overly-fussy clothing that needs to be straightened will allow the photo session to flow more naturally and without unneccesary interuptions. It’s a good idea to stick to a color pallette of 3 or 4 colors for a cohesive look for the whole family versus everyone wearing the same color tops and bottoms. During our planning meeting, we’ll talk over clothing and accessory recommendations that will give polish to your images.

HOW LONG IS A TYPICAL FAMILY PHOTO SESSION?
Family photo sessions are typically 1.5 to 2 hours long.

Ultimately, it is dependent on the kids. I will follow the lead of any children being photographed; if they’re having fun and I’m getting great images, I may continue photographing. If they’ve had enough and are ready to be done, we may end the session sooner.

NEWBORN SESSIONS

HOW DO I BOOK A NEWBORN SESSION?
Newborn sessions ideally take place within the first 10 days of life. If you are interested in booking a newborn session, please contact me at least one month in advance of your due date, if possible. If your newborn is already here and you want to book a session, please call me right away and I’ll do my best to work you in.

Similarly to family sessions, please send a message or schedule a call.  We’ll talk about your vision and my style to determine if we are a good fit to work together. After we speak, you’ll be able to select a session date from my booking calendar that works for you, then complete my online portrait agreement and submit the session fee payment. Your session date will be reserved once the portrait agreement and payment are received.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK A NEWBORN SESSION?
I work with a limited number of clients each month so that I can give each and every family personalized service and attention.

Session dates are often reserved many weeks or even months in advance. Reservations are on a first-come basis.

Please keep in mind in order to accommodate as many clients as possible, proposed session dates can only be held for 48 hours and will only be reserved once payment is received. After 48 hours, the spot will be made available again for others to book.

If your baby has already been born and your would like to schedule your session within the next two weeks, availability can only be guaranteed for 24 hours after the initial phone call.

WHAT WILL OUR NEWBORN SESSION BE LIKE?
The early days at home with a newborn are a period of adjustment for the whole family. As with all of my sessions, I aim to give each and every client a wonderful experience without adding unwanted stress. I understand the first priority is caring for your baby; feeding, changing, and comforting always take precedence over photographing.

When you welcome me into your home, you can expect me to work in a warm, unassuming, yet authoritative manner. I will keep the session progressing at an efficient, yet relaxed, pace with plenty of time for parents to tend to the baby whenever necessary. I will hang back, either observing or photographing during these unscripted times, which often end up being the sweetest and most authentic moments.

WHEN WILL MY NEWBORN SESSION TAKE PLACE?

A newborn session is ideally scheduled when the baby is between 7 and 14 days old. During this period the baby will still be sleeping most of the time and will not yet be very alert to the world. The timing is dependent on individual circumstances of the client, as well as my availability. I ask clients to put me on their distribution list of friends and family to contact after the baby is born. Once I’m notified of the baby’s birth, I will contact the family right away to finalize the date and time of the session.

WHERE WILL MY NEWBORN SESSION TAKE PLACE
I usually do newborn sessions in clients’ homes or in another agreed-upon location in a natural way. That means usually using the parents’ bed, having the parents hold the baby in a cozy chair near a window, sitting together on a couch, in the nursery (if you have one), and could even include laying the baby on a nice blanket on the floor.
HOW LONG IS A TYPICAL NEWBORN SESSION?
On average a newborn session takes about 3 hours. It can sometimes take less time, but can also sometimes be longer.

I ask families to try to not schedule anything else on the day of the session so that there is no pressure to end by a certain time. This allows time to capture a wide variety of images that include the baby individually, with each family member (parents, siblings, and, of course, pets!), as well as the whole family together.

DO YOU BRING PROPS OR CLOTHING FOR THE BABY?
I don’t bring props, clothing, or accessories with me and just use clothing or special items that belong to the client. I often photograph newborns in a simple swaddle or blanket.
WHAT IF OUR HOME IS A MESS?
Even if the home is turned upside down, the location can still work well for our purposes. I don’t care what is behind me while I’m shooting (believe me when I say I’ve seen it all after photographing hundreds of families). All we need to do is declutter or straighten the area in front of the camera. We can even just grab a laundry basket to fill with all the “stuff” that’s accumulated on night stands or laying around on the ground.
