A Long-Term Friendship with the Erikson Family: Capturing Memories Through the Years
One of my favorite parts of my job is the long-term and meaningful connections that can come out of our family photography sessions. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing the Erikson family since 15-year-old twins, Sonia and Eve, were under one year old. I have had the honor of capturing their growth—both as individuals and as a family—through various milestones. These sessions are always a highlight for me, and I love how each shoot offers a unique opportunity to create new memories for them.
A Connection That Keeps Growing
Over the years, I’ve seen Sonia and Eve grow from toddlers into energetic young girls full of personality. The connection we’ve built has made each session feel like catching up with old friends. Their family has evolved, and I’ve been there to document many of these special changes at each of these family photography sessions. From family mini-sessions to more extensive shoots in their new home, each session has had its own magic.
The Process: Keeping Things Fresh and Fun
What’s so special about working with long-term clients like the Erikson family is how much I’ve come to understand their dynamic. This enables me to keep the family photography sessions fresh while maintaining a personal touch. For example, after a move to a larger house, we incorporated their new home and added their adorable new puppy into the session—a perfect representation of this exciting chapter in their lives.
The girls are always full of energy, and I love the challenge of keeping up with them. Their playful spirit has always brought out the best in me as a photographer. They continually push me to find creative ways to capture their special moments, and this session was no exception. I love that I never have to worry about how to get the girls to smile, because their father always helps me out with silly dad jokes to get the girls to laugh. (Thanks, Dan!)
Creating Lasting Artwork
We’ve also worked together to create beautiful displays of their photos over the years, from holiday cards to large-scale gallery walls. For one session, we selected four striking images to display up the stairs in their home—one of each girl alone, one of the sisters together, and one of the whole family together. Every time I’ve visit and see the beautifully displayed prints displayed prominently throughout their home, I feel proud knowing I’m helping preserve the memories of the childhood years.
Looking Ahead
I’ve loved watching this family evolve over the years, and each year I’m eager to see all of changes since our previous time together. Eve and Sonia are in high school now, and still, I continue to meet with them each fall for their next family photography session. The relationship I have with the whole family, as well as many others families throughout the DMV region, is one of the most rewarding parts of my job.
I’d be thrilled to help you preserve your family’s special moments too. Contact me today to schedule your session! Curious to view another one of my family portrait sessions? Click here!
