Grace’s second portrait session gave me the chance to create some stunning images of the Tindale family and their now 8-month-old baby daughter. My friendship with Christina and Greg goes back many years and this is the second of three family photography sessions that we will do together with Grace – held at 4, 8, and 12 months old.
We met at Bishop’s Garden at Washington National Cathedral, a beautiful setting on the south side of the Cathedral. The space is enclosed by a stone wall and contains a small collection of herb gardens, a rose garden, and a meandering stone path that connects it all. It is a stunning space and has long been cherished as one of Washington DC’s gentlest horticultural areas. Not only is the garden a beautiful space to spend a quiet moment in the midst of nature, it is also the site where Greg proposed to Christina and a site that will always hold special significance for their family.
Even though we’d had a string of cold autumn days leading up to the baby portrait session, many flowers were still in bloom in Bishop’s garden. Grace’s darling dress played beautifully off the colors that surrounded her and the family looked great in every setting and pose that we tried throughout the morning. I particularly loved the way that the window of the gazebo framed them so sweetly in the soft light of the day.
It is not uncommon for parents to book me for multiple portrait sessions in their baby’s first year in an effort to capture all the shockingly quick changes that take place during the first twelve months of life. Just take a peek at Grace’s first photo session with me and already you’ll see how her little body has grown, how her expressions have changed, and how her awareness of the world around her is beginning to shine through. When I stopped by to deliver their first gallery wrap, a large wall print of the image below, little Grace had just started walking and I am so looking forward to seeing how she continues to grow, develop, and explore the world that is (quite literally) at her feet. It’s a little breathtaking, isn’t it?
That’s exactly why the Tindale family will be displaying these baby portraits in a series of photo gallery wraps that will hang on the walls of their home. When all 3 sessions are complete, we will also be crafting an heirloom coffee table album that will document our time together during Grace’s first year of life. Until next time, I’ll see you soon little Grace!
