First time clients, Rachel and David recently contacted me about doing a maternity photo shoot, as well as a newborn session once their new little bundle of joy is born. At the time of the session, which took place at their home in Bethesda, Rachel was nearing the end of her pregnancy and was expecting to go into labor any day. She wanted to capture the joy and love of this special time before it was too late.

Fortunately for me, David is friends with another client of mine, Tom Fletcher. They work together and David had seen photographs in Tom’s office I had taken of Tom’s little girl Abby.

The Washington DC area has been very rainy this spring, and as we approached the date of the session, the string of wet days didn’t appear to have an end any time soon. Luckily, though, the sun came out in the early evening, which was just long enough for us to capture some beautiful photos. All the rain seemed to do something good, as everything outside was a lush, beautiful green, with plenty of early summer flowers in bloom.

Rachel and David have a gorgeous outdoor space, as well as lots of great light indoors to work with. Both locations provided excellent settings for a variety of photos, as you can see. I love the the splash of pinks and purples provided in the sea of green landscaping.

Rachel’s long, flowing dress worked wonderfully to show off her glowing appearance and beautiful baby belly. She was very at ease posing in the verdant garden and the couple displayed such a sweet tenderness toward each other. This in turn, translated into a very romantic feel to the images. The ones of Rachel by herself are absolutely glowing, and you can almost feel her excitement mixed with a tad of nostalgia as this phase of the pregnancy is nearing its end.

Rachel was meant to be induced last week, so I’m already looking forward to the upcoming newborn session which should be happening in the next week or so. Once their new little one arrives and has his or her big photography debut, we’ll be going over the images from both sessions to plan some artwork to adorn the walls of their home.
