Abby’s parents were excited to share the news about Baby #2! They had the idea of announcing the pregnancy using one of the photos from this session, which I thought was a fantastic idea! They even had a special sign made up to tell the big news—which you can see in the final shot here on the blog. On the 4th of July, they shared the photo on Facebook. Of course, the news (and adorable pic of Abby) stole the show!
Once again, this session took place in the “H” family’s home, in the yard, and in Abby’s nursery. Elizabeth planned out three beautiful outfits for Abby, along with coordinating outfits for herself and Matt. Abby was so comfortable throughout that she barely minded having her outfit changed multiple times.
Normally during photo sessions of babies, I wrap up my work as nap-time approaches. But Abby fell asleep with so little fuss and so quickly, I felt compelled to continue photographing her. I was able to capture some of the sweetest images of her napping in her mother’s arms. Abby looks so peaceful and relaxed. Don’t you think?
The family’s cat, Spice, is so friendly and comfortable around Abby. Elizabeth was telling me about how Spice likes to sit on the edge of the crib to look out the window. When he ventured in as Abby was napping, Elizabeth scooped him up and placed him into the crib to show off his balancing abilities. We captured some of the cutest baby/cat images I’ve ever seen. Spice posed right next to Abby as she slept, clearly not phased in the slightest about the camera. Then, when Abby woke up and saw Spice visiting in her crib, she sported the biggest smile! You can tell by the way her eyes light up, this little girl loves her kitty!
The whole year of photos of Abby will culminate in a beautiful heirloom album that I know the whole family will enjoy for years to come. They also plan to get a series of wall prints to adorn their home—one from each session to commemorate her first year. We’re already talking about how we can combine a first-year session with a newborn session because the new baby is due a couple of weeks after Abby turns one. I’ve never photographed a newborn and one-year-old together, so that should be an exciting experience. I can’t wait to help them decide on how to show off all the new images for both children.
