Washington DC Family Photographer Services in Your Neighborhood

When planning family photography services with clients, it is not uncommon for them to suggest meeting at an iconic location, like the US Capitol or the Lincoln Memorial, for their sessions. Though I sometimes love taking pictures in these well-known Washington DC spots, it’s really not necessary for taking beautiful portraits. In fact, these more obvious, touristy spots are often overcrowded and not all that convenient for a rendezvous.

On-location family photo services present a unique opportunity to incorporate the family’s home and neighborhood into the photos. This adds a documentary layer that personalize the images and make them even more meaningful. In fact, whenever I write about ideal locations for photo sessions I discuss the benefits of choosing your home, backyard, or neighborhood.

When planning each client’s personalized family photo service, I scout the area around the family’s home and nearby neighborhood looking for picturesque vignettes to incorporate. It is almost always possible to find areas of open shade along with nice looking foliage no matter where the family lives.

In the case of the W Family, we were able to use both the backyard and some the surrounding sidewalks for the outside part of the photo session. Since we were close to home, I was then able to take photos of the foursome inside along with photos of each child in their own bedroom. The result is a nice variety of indoor and outdoor shots that include the W Family Home.
