Music Together with Miss Amy

Yes, It IS Good for Babies to Listen to Music

Even before my pregnancy, I had heard about the benefits of music classes for babies. Researching further, I found out that music is good for early childhood development. Babies can even learn a sense of rhythm even before they are able to walk and talk. So in the autumn of 2009, soon after my son was able to sit up on his own, he and I started taking “baby and me” music classes taught by professional singer and musician, Amy Despres.

Amy founded Miss Amy’s Music Makers in the Washington, DC area, which teaches the nationally recognized Music Together® program. It offers a fantastic curriculum of music and movement that allows babies and young children a chance to “get in touch with their inner musician and connect with other families.”

My son and I continued taking classes with Amy for many months after we first began. I even had the opportunity to spend some time with Amy in my professional capacity as a photographer. In 2010, I documented two Saturday morning classes to give Amy new images to spice up her website. Here are a few of my favorites, some of which you can still find on the Miss Amy’s Music Makers website.

Look No Further for Baby Music Classes in Washington, DC

As of the most recent update to this article in June 2025, Miss Amy’s Music Makers is still going strong. This is no doubt because Amy was then, and still is, a fantastic teacher with real musical talent and an infectious enthusiasm. She has a way of engaging very young children that fostered my son’s love and appreciation for music from the very beginning of his life that persists to this day. She along with a handful of other teachers that she has enlisted offer classes all over Washington, DC. At a time when it was difficult to even get out of the house with a young infant, it was priceless to find a location within walking distance of my home.

After taking these photos, another teacher who was working with Amy enlisted my services. Silvia Farro wanted similar pictures for use on her own website when she was preparing to move back to Italy to launch her own Music Together franchise. Years later, I still enjoy opportunities to work with other small businesses, those that provide services to families with babies and young children, as well as other small business. My photographs adorn the walls of The Breastfeeding Center for Greater Washington and on the website of Nicole McLaughlin Acupuncture. If you are interested in a creative photos for your website, please ask me about my Business Lifestyle Photo Sessions.
